In 1982 I was in the Himalayas and met a traveler who spoke of a small town in the mountains of Mexico called San Miguel. I promised myself I would go there and years later I did. Little did I realize then what a profound effect that trip would have on me and the direction of my photography. Color is not only everywhere in Mexico, but in combinations that one would never think possible. For the last 10 years I have made annual trips to colonial towns in Mexico rich in history, architecture and above all color. Noted Mexican architect Luis Barragàn when asked why color was the dominant theme in his work replied, "For the sheer pleasure of using and enjoying it!" |
